Our History

Amherst Veterinary Hospital originally opened its doors on Dunbar Street in 1987.   We were located on the corner of Dunbar and 26th Avenue and have many fond memories of our days with the Dunbar community.  In 1996 Amherst Veterinary Hospital relocated and expanded its practice to its present location on Alma and 4th Avenue.

Although we have moved from Dunbar Street, we have been very fortunate to retain our Dunbar clients and maintain those relationships with our wonderful clientele.

Going back in Time – Dr. Grant Cumberbirch started his career as a Veterinarian on Dunbar.  He began practicing as a veterinarian at the Dunbar Veterinary Hospital (on Dunbar and 39th) and spent six and half years there under the tutelage of Dr. Rex Mears.

We are saddened to see that the Dunbar Veterinary Hospital is no longer operational. Our Amherst Veterinary Hospital is proud to continue providing Veterinary care to the Dunbar Community and their beloved pets.
