Shelby

Animal Health Technician
Dr. Grant Cumberbirch
Shelby was born and raised in Burnaby. She graduated in 2016 from the Animal Health Technology Program at Thompson Rivers University. Shelby has worked at the Wildlife Rescue Association of BC before her time at Amherst and really enjoyed her time there.

Shelby is interested in many areas of animal medicine. Her main interests are anesthesia, analgesia and radiology. She also likes to focus on stress handling techniques and ensuring that every animal that comes into the clinic has a positive experience.

Shelby has a huge passion and love for all animals. This began when she was a girl growing up. Her family had a west highland terrier with many health issues. Shelby learned the importance of veterinary medicine from caring for this pet.

Shelby shares her home with a little tuxedo cat named Buster. She adopted him form her program at school. He was very shy and skittish but has blossomed into a loving and playful kitty. Shelby is an outdoors kind of girl and lists hiking, running and walking as hobbies.

Shelby is very excited to be part of the Amherst team. She feels very lucky to begin her career at such a well established clinic that practices such high quality of medicine.
