Sonny
Veterinary AssistantSonny was born and raised mostly in Vietnam. Once she finished high school, she was given an opportunity to study abroad and so she chose Canada, specifically Vancouver. Wanting to follow in her family’s footsteps, she chose to study Hospitality Management at the Vancouver Community College and graduated in 2020.
Due to the pandemic, she didn’t have a chance to advance in the hospitality industry. However, the pandemic gave her time to really focus on what she wanted to do long-term. It struck her that she had always wanted to work closely with animals, so she looked into schooling options for working in the animal industry and found the Veterinary Assistant program at Granville College.
Even though Sonny came to Amherst with little veterinary industry experience, she has always felt confident with animals. She asks questions and is keen to learn as much as possible. After being at Amherst for awhile, Sonny has determined that she has an interest in Animal Behavior. Also she has learned a lot about reading the patient.
Besides the constant cuddles and kisses from the patients, Sonny says that she is grateful to be contributing to animal wellness and awareness.
Sonny has other interests such as artwork and is interested in a future career as a tattoo artist. In addition, she loves karaoke and the freedom it gives her to express herself.
Sonny says “before working at Amherst, I’ve never experienced such a positive workplace environment. No matter what your background is, everyone here is extremely supportive, kind and patient. This has really helped me in my development over the past year here at Amherst. I’m very grateful to be a part of such a wonderful team.”
